We romanians see it like a Hero...and less like a vampire. It was very cruel but on that time was something normal.
People forget that he was fighting against the expansion of Ottoman Empire in Europe.

I think one of the legends we liked very much about Vlad Tepes was the one of Night Attack. It is about Vlad and a a hand of Romanian warriors that dressed like ottomans and in a night attacked the armies of Turks. That had a huge impact on Turks morale and they thought they was attacked by some of their own. After Vlad and his small army got out from Turks camp, the ottomans fought till the morning killing their own kind. So Vlad was a wise and brave man at least for Romanian people.
And as a notice: the army of Turks was something like 150.000 - 300.000 people and the Romanian army at most of 30.000 peoples.

after what I've read, I think that Vlad was a hero becouse of the fact that he did not agree to be the Sultans puppet ruler of Wallachia.
There is just one thing that I don't agree with Vlad Dracula , too much cruelty , that man had mental problems.

We should not forget what is the time we are talking of ...
He was cruel but I think he knew what is doing. In that times the church of Vatican was burning people for no reason - science, wealth, behavior and I think is a lot worse
Vlad did that (impalement) with thieves, enemies and traitors. So the values he spread (at least for Romanians) are truth, loyalty/patriotism, order ...
In all the Europe of that years, there was cruelty for power, money, or just for fun ...

he impaled every single one that HE thought is not worth living. he impaled women that someone thought or heard that they are unfaithful ........ you can't kill someone by they way they look to you

Hi Annabel
I don't think Vlad was killing for fun at least from the articles I've read it was nothing like that. We should not judge him by cheep movies
